PROLOGUE - 3. A PLACE IN VIRGINIA

22-ACRE MINI-FARM

They just did not measure up to the one on Joppa Rd. As we were headed back to Missouri, I called the agent back to see if we could take a second look at the property on Joppa Rd. That sold us - we knew this was our house. We negotiated the price on the drive back, and by the time we had gotten to Kentucky, we had an accepted offer.

Now it was real - it was time to sell our old farmhouse.

We knew this was the right house, but the price was higher than we wanted to pay. I know there was divine intervention that assisted us in this process. I called the selling agent to find out if there were any offers on the Joppa Rd house. There was. He said that offer was too low.. So I asked him how much is too low, not certain he would tell me - but he did. Yikes! It was what I would have offered for the property. So we continued on our quest looking at other homes.

Our new home would be a 22-acre homestead built by Jeremiah Davis in 2003. He was the builder-owner and provided a great start for our new mini-farm: a pad for a future 2-car garage an orchard of 8 failing apple trees, an abandoned grape arbor, an overgrown carport buried in the woods, a large shed he called his “barn” and a beautiful empty canvas of woods and rolling meadow where we would be able to build our dream property.

Little did we know, as we would begin to use the land, we would find numerous other “gifts” Jeremiah had left behind for us like a pallet of bricks, a large pile of decorative gravel, cattle panels, t-posts and more.

Yet, I am getting ahead of myself. We need to go back a little further to get a better picture of this epic move.
