TIM'S HISTORY WITH CHICKENS

IT STARTED LONG, LONG AGO

if it seems that Tim is at home with animals, it might be because of his early years with Aunt Fran and Uncle Jack, on their farm in Arkansas.

At our previous farm in Wildwood, MO, our first chickens came from Purina Farms, when it was time for them to restock their testing area. Tim brought 26 birds home and we were able to enjoy fresh eggs as well as share with the family and sell our excess. We had decided not to move them, and consequently the wild varmints took care of the problem for us - no move needed.

In spring 2022, Tim ordered 26 chicks via mail order, delivered US Mail. Apparently, once they hatch, they can live for up to 48 hours on their own without additional food. When I picked them up from the post office, they were mighty hungry.

We added an additional 26 birds in 2023, including Rhode Island reds and Easter Eggers. in mid-summer, a couple of hens got broody. Tim separated them from the rest of the flock and we wound up with an additional 4 more birds - go figure.

We will continue adding to our stock as needed and work to assure healthy, happy birds.
