AUGUST 2022

MONARCHS HAVE ARRIVED

AUGUST was here, we knew the end of summer was near - yet the brilliance of color had not yet faded. The long awaited monarchs appeared in the garden. My joy is to have an array of beautiful butterflies and hummingbirds to adorn the flowering colors of summer.

It may sound like all we do is work. However, I have not mentioned the pool? Yes, we wanted a pond, but instead we got a "ce-ment pond". Sometimes it even looked like a pond, complete with frogs - yuck. that is what happens when the pool pump quits.

In a day or two, Tim had it up and running. then naturally he had to test it out. All in all, it was worth the effort. We enjoyed it the rest of the summer, the cats did as well - go figure.

Tim was busily working on the electricity for my garden shed. He tapped into the main panel to run a sub panel to the shed. This required pulling wire across the basement ceiling, punching a hole in the concrete foundation. Time to invite Nat and Mal over for a fun weekend at the pool (and maybe to help with the shed wiring?!).

The bees seemed to be doing well and Tim continued to monitor their progress. I was able to can tomatoes and beans and freeze corn and peppers from the garden. I continued to monitor the apples and sprayed them every 14 or so days to help ensure a crop. There were so many apples on the big tree, I started to thin them out as the limbs on the trees were beginning to suffer the weight. With the “wind-fall” apples, I made pectin for jelly.
